@morkallearns781 That is nothow geography works. The US is enormous and the dense growth is very much clustered in urban areas. That's why I don't live in one. Buyers follow herds but that's their fault. There aren't near humans enough to create urban density everywhere in the US. A few hours away from any of the cities you listed there's land for much less. That's why my alarm clock is a rooster.

I left the metro area over forty years ago because there is no reason to WANT to live in a crowded dense high traffic overtaxed hellhole. The middle class who leave will in every case be better off because cities inherently suck to live in. The only reason those not rich stay is fear of change but that's just silly. The whole USA is their birthright but they're AFRAID to move away from where their (and my) ancestors got off the boat. The whole point of working in the northeast used to be cashing out and moving someplace warm and affordable. Why wait until you're nearly dead to make the change when it will be much harder for a future elderly weak retiree to do? Escape early and be happy. Despite media frothing humans can and do afford homes in the rest of the US and land with them. I only have six wooded acres but that's room enough for target practice, garages, workshops and keeping chickens. My alarm clock is a rooster and I haven't locked my doors in decades. My property tax is less than 900 bucks and I'm debt free because I GTFO the NY metro area.

@Person-mh6xq No, it isn't because NYC sucked then and has always sucked within living memory. It was much worse in the 1970s and the murder rates prove it. Today ain't chit. I visit family every few years and stop by.

NYC svcked since the 1970s. CITIES svck. People stay there because they're afraid to leave home despite their ancestors being immigrants.
