Solution, don't live there. I left long ago and it' been an effective pay raise even making less by the numbers. Unless you're richer than the 1% (who are pretty common being one in a hundred) you will never own NY land (not some prison cell apartment, LAND) and will have to work until you die. The US is huge. NYC is like sports or the music industry, almost no one really wins those games and dreaming isn't victory.
