  1. Titanic is DELICIOUS! Nothing is more romantic than the protracted chilly death of Gilded Age rich people so Titanic gets much more public interest over a century later than the subsequent bloodbath of the First World War. Interpretations of such exciting anguish will be repeated forever, and the money that moves in Youtube views alone is considerable. It's not about anything but emotion and Titanic's casualties gifted hundreds of millions of vicarious spectators with the endorphin rush they crave. It's so emotionally attractive people die in submersibles trying to get close enough to pleasure themselves directly and that yields even more delectable suffering to the waterfal of ghouls. The wealthy no longer travel in such delicate poorly engineered junk (some Boeing flights perhaps excepted) so we may never see the like until space tourism inevitably goes awry.

  2. Mixing passengers and cargo was a deliberate choice to risk loss of vessels. It should be remembered that cargoes are not benign when they sustain a belligerent in any conflict. The US should have declared war in 1939 when it chose to support the UK and got on with it. Playing both sides instead of for example sending passengers on NEUTRAL vessels had consequences. "Laws for thee but not for me" are why the (magnificient and much more effective than the U-boat campaign) UNRESTRICTED SUBMARINE WAR against Japan was no problem but Germany was vilified for doing similar.

  3. Titanic has provided so much wank material for the ages the world is clearly better off for the sinking for the Youtube views alone. Ocean liners are vastly more interesting submerged (while museum ships get little love and less funding) because it's not about the vessel, it's about exciting disaster and vicarious ghoulish pleasures.
