Artillery is organic to ground forces and available 24/7 in all weathers while an air base can be neutralized briefly or longer by bombardment. Artillery is local. Air is distant. Artillery can instantly respond to contact vs. waiting for a JTAC to clear aerial bombardment which can and has often been denied due to unavailability, ROE etc. Rocket artillery is relatively bulky making tube arty space-effective because mobility matters. Light portable high angle artillery reach where line-of-sight weapons cannot. Air power is not ubiquitous and US birds cannot be on station everywhere. (Operation Red Wings failed due to absence of loitering fixed wing attack aircraft besides the foolishness of sending a tiny force fighting at parity with the locals. The subsequent Marine operation cleaned up the mess by doing the job properly.) Much love for air power which I spent a happy career maintaining (Phantom, Bronco, F-16 A/B/C/D/CJ) but it does not replace artillery which is why our Army and Marines still field it.

Russian politicians are just other mobsters like Putin trying to place themselves in a safe position as in previous leadership swaps. Russia cannot reform because it has zero cultural basis for anything but the tyrannical predatory systems it has ALWAYS had since Tsarist times. Russia is intrinsically evil and all of its "reformers" failed without exception because Russia is really a genocidal (twice in Ukraine with millions dead the first time) mafia with nuclear weapons.

Young Americans like the rest of the country are not wired to care about foreign affairs, military affairs outside their personal taskings, and ESPECIALLY the social history of US constabulary wars and why we are unable to choose them wisely. I was alive when Viet Nam was completely forgotten and the meme that we should have just applied more firepower took over. Afghanistan will be collectively forgotten the same way and we will do it again in about 25 years after the military cadre who served have retired. The American public are too stupid to care and mostly drool on their shoes while thanking us for our service about which they know nothing useful by their own relentless choice.

  82. Sex has always been competitive but in the past there were fewer self-entitled whining self-pitying losers. There were always losers but traditional masculinity was generally realist. Chads were cheered one with less envy. The US was in a vastly worse economic situation during the Great Depression yet today's social malaise is evidently more severe despite a worker shortage so large mass quitting are the new normal. Previous generations didn't (nutjobs excepted) imagine society entitled them to get laid. If you want the benefits of social interaction in meatspace vs online then unass the chair and DO things. Volunteering is a great way to meet smart, positive people motivated to improve their and your community. To get what you desire you must become desirable, but that's good not bad for character growth. Use the internet positively to find opportunities to grow socially and network. Participate in society and reap the rewards.

  86. The FBI has been an organ of oppression since the J. Edgar Hoover era (read about COINTELPRO). It got away with mostly ignoring the Mafia because busting those it did bust was easy and safe.
