Building weapons for years is one thing, giving the attack orders another WITHOUT USING RADIO OR COMPUTERS OR PHONES. Wars before them didn't need them after all and the raid was basic enough.

Israel failed to picket their border sufficiently (note the backhoe lifting the fence was not instantly destroyed) with arty. Israel failed to have QRFs on standby to interdict the invasion. Israel fails to have a completely armed civilian population despite being in a permanent state of terrorist threat, leaving civilians to hide in terror. Israel grossly overvalues hostages trading over one thousand for Shalit, for example. That makes this a major win for Hamas unless Israelis harden up about collateral damage. Israel failed to have ubiquitous light SHORAD despite lessons of Ukraine. This will be studied for many years.
