One word: kompromat The US is a business, not a country and stands for nothing though it never really stood for more than power conferred by geographic advantage.

@DixieLane304 It got used to contain the permanent enemy of Western civilization, Russia, for which purpose it was purchased in the first place! (Why do you imagine the US found our large armed forces necessary? It wasn't GWOT.) That's an incredible bargain since Ukrainians are doing the dying to mutual benefit. Youngsters can't imagine the reality of the early Cold War or why the US resisted Russia and Maoist China. It's completely outside their interest as if it were long ago historically which it's not. Putin and Russian nationalists want a Soviet respawn. It took decades and many wars to contain the USSR/Warsaw Pact.
