  1. If you want to wrench run away from doing cars for anyone but yourself (which saves mad money so I do). Aircraft are easier, cleaner and you aren't competing with desperate bottom feeder auto shops. Best wrenching life for me by far was the USAF because near zero non-government jobs have an attainable retirement with medical benefits which is extremely important such that not putting it first in your career selection is likely a mistake. I've wrenched cars, trucks, industrial equipment (fun but no career progression) and other systems but while the right person CAN make a career of wrenching there are other ways to turn a dollar. If you don't build your own business (risky, expensive, exhausting) then there is no upward path.
