  2. A T Model can sit in a barn over a century and be refurbished better than new. Thanks to poured bearings and the rest of the design which was intended to be fixed by primitive shops in austere conditions it will remain easy to restore a 200 year old T Model when the time comes. They're slow and the awful brakes were purely a greed-driven design choice (larger drums existed on other vehicles of the early 1900s) but they're about the "minimum viable automobile".

  3. Slick design but an overhaul nightmare. If you can't easily overhaul an engine in the field with common standard machine tools handling all metal cutting operations the design is unsuitable, end of story. Factory production of specialty items like compressors which are replaced rather than overhauled and lead easy lives compared to motor vehicle use makes sense so the outcome is logical. Piston wear IRL is nearly irrelevant because piston RINGS are the moving wear surfaces and the bore being softer takes the brunt of the wear. Local machine shops generally finance large machine tool purchases and would avoid specialty machines until the market takes off, but the lack of local overhaul capability deters the market.
