+matthew bailey I started listening to Motorhead when I was in high school. I'm only 24 now. Fortunately I still got to see them in concert twice here in Texas, when Lemmy was 64 and 65 years old. They were both excellent shows, unforgettable, and popped my concert cherry in the best way possible. But when I became a hardcore fan and looked at Lemmy's life, I said to myself, "There's no way Lemmy's going to live for much longer -- I'm amazed that he's lasted this long." I had to accept it because I knew it would come relatively soon, but I continued to enjoy them while they lasted. Lemmy once said that it's silly folks respect other people more when they're dead, but frankly I'm glad that more people are recognizing Lemmy for his one-of-a-kind character and excellent music.

@thenonexistinghero brother, machine language is created by humans to represent the state of transistors, if the hardware is different then a new type of machine language will be created to support the new hardware. in the 1930s when the first vacuum tube computers were made someone like you was confused at how computers could be written with 1s and 0s instead of sliding beads like an abacus

+ThefightingCelt It is really hard to take the author at face value because he sounds very pretentious but he's actually telling the truth. Lemmy's a lot smarter and gentler than he seems and it shows if you look at his personal life. He did things that would offend third-wave feminists like call women pet names, but he respected them where it counted. He just really liked to shag, you know? He even placed it above rock and roll -- in fact it's the reason he got into rock and roll.

@PDRIFT86 How many different chat apps have they had? 5? 6?

@alfiananas31 GPUs are just good at running a lot of operations in parallel

+Russell Solomon In his words, "You gotta chase 'em. You can't catch 'em if you don't chase 'em." And he really liked to chase 'em. Also, being intelligent, famous and funny helps.

@MrJustin259 Please don't tell me you're one of those people. Japan went to the moon just this year.

@nerolmars3701 IIRC, there are a lot of war hawks in Russia's administration.

@GodLovesComics Actually, that's just being British in general. They understate everything. However, he is correct, quantum computing is largely oversold. It's kind of like the difference between parallel processing (more cores) and a faster, single processor core. You will still need a faster core for many applications, having more cores is not a magic bullet that makes everything faster. It will help researchers in many applications. Consumers... perhaps not so much.

@AlexanderTheGreat-f5r Lol, you take China at their word.

@AlexanderTheGreat-f5r Investment? Same reason Google is lying about theirs with the "10 septillion years" nonsense? Come on, now.

@SpicyMelonYT Uh, there needs to be an output or the data won't be useful to humans.

@aceman0000099 more like your car turns left, right, drives straight over the curb and into the grass, stops, and does a U-turn all at the same time -- until you try to pick one, then the one you wanted is actually chosen, but the car was driving all of those other options in the background "just in case"

@TheFreakonhell it's only that fast because it was specifically designed to make the QPU look good. google is a company, they are doing this for marketing purposes. they greatly exaggerate the capabilities of their their own products all the time
