@xenn4985 The possession of a weapon of mass destruction would be virtually the same as declaring independent sovereignty. If you have a nuke, you can threaten to hold everyone around you hostage unless your terms are met. The standard play at this point is to declare sovereignty. By "everyone around you" I mean potentially millions of people. Yes, I know, shocking to think that pro-gun people are able to tell the difference between a rifle and a nuclear warhead.

@tooslow4065 Prohibition was a violation of the tenth amendment (unlike the Union preventing the secession of the Confederation, which was not despite what they claimed). It was ratified as an amendment itself, but that was mostly because of a very misguided and very ephemeral grassroots movement at the time. I'm not a scholar on the subject, but perhaps there were also some strings pulled to get the Temperance ball rolling. It would not be very different from politics today. Slavery was never in the long-term interest of the union and most of the framers believed that as well. Regardless of the legality of it in the moment, it was doing real, visible damage to our nation, and it was a ticking time bomb -- as it was for the Romans. The only reason the US was founded with slavery intact was purely a compromise to prevent further bloodshed at the time. You seem to put far too much stock into mob rule; what 51% of people believe at any given moment in time. If you think that's so important, perhaps you should be anti-gun rights.
