@fignewtoneater the urban environment as we know it did not even exist "throughout history" neither did pistols as we know them. you could steal someone's sword and it wouldn't do you a damn bit of good if you didn't know how to use it, especially if the guy you stole it from was wearing armor. shooting a pistol is as easy as using a camera and that's to say nothing of the justice system. a murderer in the past would be, at best, an outlaw for the rest of his life, never to show his face honestly in any town ever again unless he managed to leave the country. a murderer now gets 3 hots and a cot as well as a shot at parole. we willingly foster a criminal enclave that exists within and without prisons, who live a parallel life to ours, making money and living lives by illicit means. basically, outlaws in plain sight

@rogerwood5228 Most people would be relieved that a cop wasn't actually trying to lift their gun and rob or shoot them with it. You seem to be annoyed that the OP didn't shoot the cop on principle, which is a sociopathic outlook that I don't really believe you retain (in other words, you would probably also be relieved that you didn't have to commit homicide in OP's scenario). Is it risky for the cop to do so? Sure, but he's already taking massive risks by being a cop. And no, there is no "objectively right" when it comes to small discrepancies in morality and ethics such as these. You might have more success convincing people if you weren't so arrogant on issues of morality where viewpoints usually differ.

@roflryan1 Ever tried to reholster a concealed IWB holster? It is a gigantic pain in the ass. Many accidental discharges are possible when reholstering.
