  3. The problem with the Germany analogy is that as I understand it, Germany has a somewhat decent economy. Of course their recent energy "policies" make the similarities all too apparent.

  4. I think there's only like two places I can think of I'd rate my safety walking around on the street as a "10." A sleepy religious country town, and a Japanese city I guess? I feel it isn't fair to compare a big city to a rural town so I had to throw another city in there. Big surprise, neither of these places see much immigration at all.

  6. There is also definitely something to be said for corporeal punishment such as lashes as brought up with Singapore. It's much cheaper. It is an effective deterrent. It does not promote further criminal culture by locking you up in a big building where all you do is talk to other criminals, and does not take away job opportunities by wasting you away in a jail cell. Sometimes I truly wonder if it would be more effective. But there's a whole industry built around prisons now...
