  1.  @bgmount1439  Spiders are mostly very relaxed creatures. They just spin their web and wait. They can be very useful, every farmer knows the value of having a spider or two in the barn. The wolf spider shown here is a rare exception, they're hunters.

  2. I think they understand that if there's something gigantic like a human it probably isn't going to eat it because it isn't worth the effort so it's best to just stand still
