Comments by "Crazy Eyes" (@CrizzyEyes) on "Food Theory: You Would HATE this 700 Years Old Meal (Medieval Times) RESPONSE" video.
That's still incredibly goofy and would make me roll my eyes. She should have been the one presenting the scarf, not the other way around

@DJWeapon8 It's difficult for us to conceptualize nowadays, due to mass markets and factory farming, a time where ingredients were ridiculously inconsistent. The same dish might taste terrible in one village as opposed to the next because the river they use is polluted with chemicals from tanning and has made all of the fish in it disgusting. On the other hand, you just can't replicate the experience of drinking cream or milk that was extracted from a cow the same morning and it is an increasingly rare experience nowadays

Medieval food at its best is probably as good or better than most top class restaurants today. However medieval food at its worst will kill you. Or, as was far too often the case, nonexistent. That's the problem with it. Modern food is more "standardized" due to the way our mass produce market works.

He did mention that almost every food, especially alcoholic beverages, would be of lower quality due to the less refined equipment and processes involved, and that most ale would likely taste like a modern sour due to the way it was brewed

@Homnaxer You conflated two of my posts which addressed different points together, for some reason. Alcohol was a lot more consistent because of purity laws and the fact that it kept much better. I was talking about food in my other post.

@SeasideDetective2 German purity laws are still in effect today

@haniajis I actually hate that particular video because it fails to take into account the local conditions for gathering those ingredients in the time period. He presents farm-fresh salmon and pretends that it was what a medieval Englishman would have eaten, when in reality he would have likely eaten disgusting brown salmon that was tainted by the polluted Thames and possibly filled with parasites. Hence why salmon was considered low class food. However I think he didn't do the research on that himself, he had some other people gather and prepare the food for him.

Modern military doctrine demands that every soldier carries more. There's no space for stick shaped grenades

I don't think hand grenades will go away. The ability to bounce and roll is very useful in some scenarios like clearing a building. Using a grenade launcher indoors is also impractical.

Go to the ren fair instead.
