@huh4233 That isn't how rights work. Rights exist to protect the least fortunate. In this case, a prison inmate. If they are not protected, the rights will erode and eventually become completely meaningless

@bhazerelli7611 Not at this scale. We are the prison capital of the world and its because we literally have an industry of imprisonment. People make money off of this. When the scale is this huge, and money is to be made, mistakes and corruption like this will occur

@bhazerelli7611 Results of this nation's prison system show that imprisonment is not that effective of a punishment. I am not a softie advocating for "rehabilitation classes." I genuinely think corporeal punishment would be more effective than imprisonment. It is fast, cheap, and it does not weigh people guilty of minor crimes down with a lengthy stay in a hotel filled with other criminals, where they are heavily incentivized to continue being criminals because their job prospects are neutered, and all their new friends are also criminals. I would rather take 40 lashes for a minor crime like petty theft over months in prison, any time, not that I would ever commit such an act. Crazy to me that anyone would value their time so poorly that they would rather go to jail for such long periods and then consider that "humane." Time is the most valuable resource.
