@jb5819 Requiring how? Just don't do the quest? Just pick Alliance?

It's safe because it's so unrelatable to most people. The moment that you make an evil act relatable, people who have not aged mentally beyond 12 will throw a fit because they feel icky bad emotion and it makes them very confused. There are a depressingly large amount of people in the world who believe that entertainment is never supposed to invoke negative emotion.

@tylerblue9691 Pretty bad by what measure exactly? Warcraft lore is about war . War is bad, not sure if you ever learned that in school. The first campaign of Warcraft 3 is about Arthas on a crusade to mass murder his own people to "save" them from becoming zombies. Then he becomes a death knight because he is tempted by an evil sword. You control Arthas and murder innocent people, in real time, and burn down their houses. One of the missions is literally a race between you and a demon to murder as many innocent people as possible. Relative to Warcraft's own lore, implied rape in textual dialog is incredibly tame by comparison.

@lordchicken88 Feeling uncomfortable upon seeing that choice is, at best, a result of skipping all the quest dialogue (in which case, you have no right to complain when the one quest text you decide to read about dozens of hours into the game turns out to be something you find icky) and at worst a case of a perverse mind with a totally nonsensical moral compass. When you clicked Horde on the character creation screen, you started working for a demon summoning Orc warlock. When you spawn in Durotar, you beat slaves to get them back to work. There are so many morally questionable or abhorrent acts you perform on the road to this point in the game. You have no right to complain at that point. To say nothing at all of the fact that this is a fucking video game with cartoon graphics and feeling icky about pixels moving on a screen is completely childish.

@lordchicken88 Your comment is pure word salad, friend. You tried to argue earlier that people have no right to criticize the guy because he wasn't calling for the quest to be censored or removed. I get that. I have played D&D since I was 16, you don't need to educate me on tabletop roleplaying. Furthermore it isn't even really relevant, you're just shoehorning it into the discussion. My point is that announcing to the world that this quest is icky is indeed worth criticizing for several reasons. It shows that the speaker didn't give a fuck at all about what's going on in the game until precisely that moment -- or, more likely, they didn't play the game at all and activated their amygdala when a buddy sent them a screenshot of this morally questionable quest dialog because they like getting outraged. It's kind of like saying Fox News shouldn't be criticized for making their news report about Mass Effect having a sex scene in it. Of course they should. They broadcasted their nonsensical opinion at everyone and ignored every other warning and element of context in the game just to say "LOOK, IT'S ALIEN PORN."

Yes it's almost as if these people believe that "evil people" just pop into existence fully grown with no previous life experiences. There is no conceivable way that the environment or other people could cause someone to become evil. Unless they're a criminal in the US, then they're never evil and always misunderstood people that were failed by society, who deserve a second chance. It's nonstop cognitive dissonance and nothing makes sense.

@driumissimo You chose the Horde side though? Like what the fuck did you expect? Spawning into Durotar and being surrounded by slave laborers and being assigned a job to smack them on the head to get them working again didn't clue you in that you might be the baddies?

@IKIGAIofficial You say this like that reason is incredibly obvious and morally objective. It isn't, and it's fucking dumb. It's mostly a product of Puritan upbringings believing that sex is just as bad or worse of a sin than violence.

@tylerblue9691 It's not weird at all if you study even the smallest amount of military history. Rape and war go hand in hand like peanut butter and jelly. It may be distasteful, but it's true, and the franchise is called Warcraft not Disagreementcraft. It's also totally in line with the Orcs/Horde strategy. They routinely enslave people, and this forced breeding is essentially enslaving a woman for the purpose of breeding.

@Samagachi Except Arthas' choice completely desensitized and jaded his sense of morality and led to him accepting Frostmourne and becoming the original death knight. Even if he would have ran away like a "coward" as Jaina and Uthar seemingly wanted him to do, convincing himself that murdering his own innocent subjects is the right thing to do was the real defeat from a spiritual perspective.
