  2. Agreed I'm also of Bavarian descent and none of my family does the cheek kiss greeting. Maybe it's more common up north? I remember seeing some learning material from my German class that showed such a greeting, but maybe they were simply trying to prepare you for Europeans from other nations if you were to visit Germany
