@foxgeist3129 I think you mean "I've never seen it be pretty." To your point, when people have equal resources, negotiations boil down to body language, posturing, and games of chicken. Just the same as with two caveman who have nothing, so it is with two world leaders that have everything.

@Sir_Guardus I believe JD Vance was at least partly correct in his analysis of the argument. I think Zelenskyy saw "minerals deal" and thought "they just want our resources like Russia," not understanding that they will never be "truly independent" because they are not strong enough to defend themselves from the 2nd largest military in the world without the 1st largest military in the world helping them. A huge economic investment is a great way to incentivize us to defend his country for him, instead of just dumping money in a hole like a certain other small nation on the Middle Eastern coastline that many of its neighbors believe "is"n't "real" if you catch my drift. The bullshit cheerleading from all the poser Euro heads of state got to his head and he just needed some time to calm down.

@mangomariel Russian democracy is far from legitimate, this isn't really in the hands of the Russian people at this point. Those who aren't genuinely jingoistic about keeping Putin in charge are scared in to it. There were Russian rural folk on the front line who were afraid to take supplies or lied about the Ukrainians withholding supplies from them because they are afraid of what will happen to them if they say "Thank you, Ukraine." This is in spite of the fact that they are living in ruined homes.

@ I get that we're all human, but if you're a head of state you need to move past being "angry" at your enemy. That causes a person to make mistakes.
