IIRC, this is actually the precusor to Fallout. in the lore they described riots breaking out across America because of the toll the Resource Wars had taken on domestic life. the funny thing is, we're not really at risk of running out of resources, our wars are downstream of replacing the gold backed dollar with the oil backed dollar. it's not that the oil is running out, but the value of the dollar is affected by who controls what pipelines

@MoAtreides those particular Americans wouldn't have the resources or incentives to do this without the aid of investors who are so rich that they owe no loyalty to any nation
