  1. Here's the thing, you can insta-kill enemies in that way too, so if they didn't do it back the game would be criticized for dumb AI. Just don't move your PCs next to a chasm and it's fine. Also you can just use a revivify scroll anyway if you were at the end of a fight that was going well. There's a little mote of light that appears on the edge they dropped from that you can click on to revive them. They're really not that expensive.

  2. Yep, total random chance that Astarion was unstealthed right next to a chasm, there definitely wasn't anyone that moved him there.
