Sid Meier's Pirates! had similar features in like 2004. Sure, boarding was a drummed-up rhythm/rock paper scissors type sword fight minigame, but it is still more than you get in this game and the animations are cool. Coincidentally, that game HEAVILY inspired Mount & Blade. It was also a sandbox game, with a main quest that you could pursue at any time (with a generous time limit), and the ability to fight for several different factions, different ships to own, etc.

@The_Fallen_1 Devs aren't the same as they were before, there was no college-graduate-to-massive-studio pipeline like there is now. Devs aren't as good as they were but it isn't their fault, because management intentionally lays them off to avoid the problem of paying them more. The industry is so popular now that there are always fresh faced idiots willing to throw themselves into the meat grinder. It is just like Hollywood
