Suing is fucking awful because you throw your money and time away to some lawyer. It would have been funny if he called the cops just to scare the kid, but I disagree with Asmon. He seems like the type to sue because he's retired and has nothing better to do. Stop feeding the lawyers because you are desperate for retribution.

@skydivenext That would be a waste of money. You have to put money in for it to get to the point where the plaintiff and defendant need to show up for a hearing.

Quick question for you guys. If I shake your hand, what legal policy exists to differentiate that from a tap on the shoulder, and how would I explain to a cop that I wasn't harassing him? If we're going to say that a simple touch is harassment. I could create a whole new epic YouTube pranking channel about baiting people to shake my hand and calling the cops on them. Just food for thought in regards to calling the cops on someone who taps your shoulder.

@Arroganze I couldn't do that in good conscience, because I always think about edge cases and I'd be worried about getting the one dumbass cop that ruins somebody's life, possibly because dispatch didn't provide a clear picture of the situation. This is just a thought experiment.

@brianlevine249 Doing this to an old man is dumb, but calling the cops is dumber. You never know how corrupt or stupid your local police department is. A situation like this could easily turn into "senior citizen is being assaulted by young white male" on the dispatch which could cause them to come in guns drawn if they're cowardly enough. You can see it happen several times if you follow the news closely. I've seen a black guy get arrested for shoplifting even though the dispatch told him it was a white man with completely different clothes because the older cop was a complete asshat who "didn't like the way he looked" (i.e. he was racist) While this is insanely stupid and immature, like, the type of shit that we used to do to each other on middle school bus rides, it is not worthy of being shot or even being thrown to the ground and handcuffed. Of course having said all that, this particular old fella didn't really follow through, but if he did it would be an overreaction.

He's not even the first one to get shot. The first one was some dumb fuck who pretended to rob someone with a knife at a Walmart and was shot dead. This recent guy lived and it isn't clear how dangerous the prank he did was because he's being tight lipped about it. My guess is fairly dangerous.
