@Discoveryman29 I don't even like Doom Eternal, but even I am not disingenuous enough to suggest the soundtrack carried the game. Most people liked the gameplay. They liked the Metroidvania elements, which I personally was not looking for in a Doom game. I would argue that Doom 2016 and Eternal did far more to bring in new fans to appease old fans, even if they did try to appease old fans a lot. Simple fact of the matter is there are far more people interested in gaming now than in 1993.

@InfernalMachine666 I have a big soft spot for the Raven Doom clones, but they are not as popular for a reason. Heretic is fine, but Hexen is an exercise in patience. You will look everywhere for keys and switches. Doors and jumps that would be secrets in any other FPS are required to progress in this game. Amid Evil is a pretty good spiritual successor to those games with more sane level design.
