@boobyburgerboys the director's comments, while stupid, could also be interpreted to mean that "there's no point in catering to the most vocal minority" which is absolutely true and how media avoids going woke in the first place. they were ill-advised but he was also likely set up by a reporter, just like this one tried to, for clicks

@Chaelsonen Not to justify the Halo series' shit writing, but Chief makes a lot of spontaneous decisions over the course of the games, with no further justification for his actions than "I won't miss" or "It'll work." Off the top of my head, kicking a bomb into space manually to destroy a Covenant capital ship, for example. He is extremely competent, but also very taciturn, so he has to perform before those who don't know him can trust in him. He makes Cortana nervous constantly due to his seemingly ill-informed decisions. If you read the books, you realize that this is because he has gotten used to the incompetence of non-augmented humans, especially his commanding officers (bar Keyes). So he doesn't bother explaining anything in detail.
