@Bob Saget Would you help a known arsonist who died in his own house fire that he made in the course of attempting to kill others or at least recklessly endanger them? No, you wouldn't.

@2BigFooted Except that isn't a cop's job, it's the fire department's job. You really think cops do it all? What about medical treatment, would you trust a cop to do that to you?

There's no point in risking your life if you have a 1% success rate you dingus.

@2BigFooted It doesn't really have anything to do with them being a criminal, I understand that cops go through insane risks to take criminals alive all the time (i.e. giving them a chance to surrender although they have a gun and are pointing it at them, I've seen it many times). It has more to do with training and what is reasonably expected of a cop. I believe you are taking a simple motto ("Protect and Serve") far too literally and childishly pretending that it magically gives cops qualifications that they don't have. A normal citizen can give CPR. You can learn that in a matter of a single class. I would not expect a normal citizen to rush into a burning building, or save someone who is drowning however. These are tasks that require specialized training and/or equipment. The reprimand to the cops shown in this video is because they acted callously on camera ("how far do you think he'll be able to swim") not because they didn't jump in to save him. It would be similar to expecting cops to rush in to a hostage situation instead of waiting for SWAT. Sure if it went well you'd praise them, but if it went poorly you'd say "stupid cops, why didn't they wait for the people who were qualified to show up?"
