@different_stuff Except that the "Axiom of Sky is Blue" wasn't really something you fully grasped until high school or even college, but you forgot about that because you've been teaching math for 10 years

@MortSalazar That is often due to a legitimate deficiency in the skills of a prior teacher. This happened with my AP Calculus class in high school. We could barely do trig, and our teacher, who was harsh but fair and clearly cared about the students from the way she would react emotionally sometimes (not abusive but very invested), would argue with the pre-Calculus teacher (most schools call this trig but ours called it pre-calculus for some reason...). The pre-cal teacher phoned it in and generally had an unpleasant attitude

@MortSalazar Sending an entire years' worth of kids to a tutor doesn't make sense. You're doing a lot to minimize blaming the prior teacher
