@ElishamMacJ Franklin and some of the other Founding Fathers were Deists. They were Christian, but tensions between different denominations was high at that time, and almost all the Founding Fathers were staunchly against organized religion in the style of the Catholic church. Christian beliefs were moving fast at that time in America as many denominations sprang up. It was called The Enlightenment for a reason
