real talk, any southerner who unironically waves the confederate battle flag is a stooge who would rather fight for rich plantation owners who don't give a shit about their existence and intentionally make their own economic situation worse than think for two seconds about what they're doing. it was a definitively self-destructive cause to support if you were not a slave owner, especially if you were a yeoman farmer, no better than going across the world to fight for Israel. I wouldn't make it illegal to wave it around but there's no way you can paint that as an intelligent move. we are too caught up in the "us vs. them" mentality to realize how dumb supporting the confederacy was for anyone who is not already rich. we have to be smarter than falling for nearly 200 year old propaganda spewed by equally unscrupulous rich assholes who happened to be in a different geographic location. lax immigration policy = cheap labor, nearly as good as slavery. if plantation owners would be alive today they would be the top immigration advocates in the nation.
