It's a German fairy tale, so, yeah. The idea that it wasn't mythological dwarves is ridiculous. There are some differences with the ancient Norse dwarves (German dwarves tend to be kinder and less exacting) but they're a figment of mythology nonetheless.

@cord113 You have it backwards, good CGI is a lot more labor intensive than acting. Still not as expensive as an A-list actor, but there's a whole studio of people divided and sub-divided into jobs making those graphics. AI is nowhere near the point where it can be used for competent CGI. Acting on the other hand only requires two people: the actor (who may be his own director), and a cameraman. Costumes and makeup if that's required as well, but these CGI studios... they charge a lot. They do have the distinct advantage of not being a part of SAG-AFTRA, and thus not striking, though. My money is on that as to the real reason why, if Disney decides to go with CGI, they would do that.

@milton1448 Nah, I empathize with not wanting to be named after a creature that doesn't even exist. It would be like calling white people "ghosts" because they have pale skin. It's kind of a silly way to refer to a real person. The condition they have is called dwarfism, and is referential to the myth of old, but not the same thing.

People with dwarfism aren't a significant voting bloc so they don't get all the political perks like being advocated for in Hollywood.
