  1. Corporate funding has found its way into open source because big tech firms, even Microsoft, rely on Linux and other open source staples. The funding hires activists because it allows them to get money from investors. The activists go to work on open source, salaries paid by the big tech firms, because if any more of them worked on their actual product it would fall apart. This way, they continue to get investment money.
