"Government, please send lethally armed ruffians to my location immediately!" Yeah, that's a set of words all right.

@Thee_Woker The problem is that in many departments cops like this proliferate, enabled by awful leadership and corrupt prosecutors and judges. In reality the good cops can't really do much to stop them because they aren't in these departments. Arizona has some major problems with corruption in their justice and enforcement for example.

@fractal_mind562 "Own" is just a legal term. You've obviously never taken care of a dog and you're extrapolating how most dog owners feel based purely on semantics. Not exactly a good idea. Try talking to some people you disagree with sometime, it will help you gain perspective.

@pincmin I own an excitable dog and what the man did is acceptable behavior to me. I can keep my dog treats in an open pants pocket or on the kitchen counter without her trying to steal them or being distracted. She only reacts if I reach into the bag of treats or tell her I'm going to give her a treat. But then again I don't let my dog off the leash in public parks either. I expect that any owner who cares about their dog should give them a similar level of discipline. Dog owners need to understand that an undisciplined dog can be taken away from them, just like in this case, if their lack of discipline causes harm to someone else or someone else's pet. It is not "okay" or "more natural" to not train your dog. You are already making it "unnatural" just by keeping the dog in your home so you need to go all the way and adjust them to life with humans. Worse, it could get them hurt (if they challenge a dog who is tougher than they are, or they run into the street, for example). Dogs need to be given a minimum level of discipline to live with people. And where discipline isn't enough, you have to be ready to adequately restrain them, this means don't own a dog that you can't physically handle.

@wyatt5532 That's not a valid analogy. This is more like you're outside YOUR OWN HOME doing yard work and a cop just walks up to you and says "Hello sir, can you prove that you live here? What's your name, address, date of birth? Some random clown called in that you look suspicious." "Well, I have the key here so I can just unlock the door--" "That's not good enough. Have a seat and answer all of my questions."

@thybehollowedname The key here is suspicion. You're breaking the rule of Occam's Razor (The simplest answer is most likely to be correct) by assuming that this is a guy who just so happens to be college aged, has a college ID, has tools that show that he is performing a task legitimately, but fabricated all of that for... some yet unstated and unproven purpose. Is it possible? Yes. Is it likely, given no further information? Absolutely not. If we are to assume this level of scrutiny is warranted, then every person would be randomly stopped and questioned, Gestapo-style.

Wow. At least he won't have any student debt.

@beavischrist5 Exactly. My point is anyone with any integrity left or was deliberately made to leave (because they meddled with the corruption infesting the system).

The dog isn't even excited (considering there is a stranger nearby) and she can't get him to sit while she's on the phone. I can already tell she takes as little responsibility for it as possible

@8MoneyIzmyMission8 The rural conservatives -- the ones who actually live outside of the city and suburbs, not neocon soccer moms and boomer dads -- actually do hate cops turning up on their property. Sometimes violently. Personally I feel that Trump talking about prosecution immunity for cops was a mistake and rather tone deaf. More conservatives are waking up to the fact that police are largely incompetent. I hope he reverses course on that. The left and right in this country have more in common than they realize, but our media talking heads are really good at convincing us that we should never be in the same room together.

@baxterbrownentertainment Or maybe he also has a dog and just forgot to take the treats out of his bag. I hope that tinfoil fits nice and snug on your head.
1
@AbroadOkra33 the problem is if you have a "no trespassing" sign on your yard, and you're outside doing yard work then by your logic I could call the cops on you, as your neighbor, and you'd have to sit there and play 20 questions with the cop, and apparently you think this is completely reasonable. that is definitely not the principles this nation was founded on

@narutolikestoes9028 You're in for a rude awakening some day if you worship cops like these just because you aren't black.
