Sorry to hear about your friend. It's infuriating to hear that someone let someone else take control of their life like that. All for the irrational fear of being alone for a little longer.

@Uragaan1 Typical Uragaan move, rolls into a discussion and drops his bundles of explosive shit everywhere.

@Nickel1768 What's super weird to me is car fixation. Cars are objectively horrible investments because they never appreciate. The only exception is if you get extremely lucky and buy a vehicle that is now considered a classic, and can find a collector to sell it to, after constantly maintaining it and making sure it doesn't seize up for decades. His wife didn't care about any form of wellness, including financial. She wanted a husband that she could parade around as a status symbol and nothing more.

Realistically, you should never give up everything to appeal to your lover. They were never your lover in that case, they never liked anything about you. Which is why you had to give up everything.

Well, there are ways to go about this tactfully. The step-dad could have told his wife that he doesn't want turkey. If that conversation was already had and she decided to make a turkey anyway because "muh traditions" then yeah, it's probably a relationship waiting to fall apart. I've had steaks on Thanksgiving before and they were damn good too.

The degree thing is fucking insane. I'm a programmer and I have a 4-year degree. My boss at my second position and the man who hired me didn't have a degree. I didn't give a shit because I knew at least 90% of the classes for my degree were worthless. It's a fucking piece of paper. I used it to appease idiots like the guy who hired me at my first job just because I graduated at the same college as him. And because I didn't know it would be so worthless before I enrolled.

It's not, but not for the reasons you think I'll say. People like Charlie are in a position of privilege because they earn money for the platform. However, make no mistake: There is no employment contract. No protection for workers whatsoever. To them you are trash to be discarded as soon as you start to stink up the kitchen. Streaming and uploader "partnerships" are a problem because they subvert all of the labor rights our society has worked hard over the past roughly 200 years for.

@ainzer2903 This is a dumb myth. We produce 30% more food than we need globally.

@michelle7455 The problem with both of those is not "oh no too many people we can't possibly solve this problem" it's that the people in a position to do something about those issues simply won't because it cuts into their paycheck. If there is enough pressure they will be forced to do something.
