@HermanManly No, going fast in the classic games is privilege for those who have Gotten Good (tm). You aren't meant to hold right for the entire stage and expect not to die. That would be utterly boring. You replay the stages until you know all the routes, then you can go fast because you've memorized the stage. Classic Sonic games are 2D platformers with lots of routes and secrets to find. The paradigm is different in the newer "boost" games, in that yes you are supposed to go fast all the time, but it is more like a "racing game" in that things come at you fast and you have to react to them. In exchange for this going fast all the time, they're quite linear. Either option looks more entertaining than this game.

Play Sonic Robo Blast 2, a fan game made in the fucking Doom engine that does the 3D Sonic thing better than Sega/Sonic Team has done for decades

@hoseaduran7294 The problem is that this game is supposedly 6 months out from launch and the game looks barebones as hell. Everything is extremely spread out, it looks like you'll do at least 30 seconds of running just to get to a tiny rail with some rings on it. I expect there to be more at launch, but someone on the marketing team looked at this footage and thought "Yes, this is what Sonic fans want and this makes the game look good." It doesn't, it looks like a proof of concept for a Sonic game that would be shown internally to the executives to pitch for funding. Not a game 6 months out from release.
