It's probably because a lot of hats can obscure your eyes or face pretty easily, which can be annoying for people trying to talk to you.

@SpencerLemay Computer science isn't that spergy. The spergiest kids at my college by far were the ones in the game design classes I took. That was some serious shit.

No. The department was called arts & technology and covered that as well as digital graphics. The faculty was actually really good which is why I stuck with it. I thought I was going to be a game developer but balked when I saw how poor the employment prospects were. There may have been a game design major of some kind but I didn't know about it and I stuck with computer science with the game design classes as electives. I think there certainly wasn't one when I was originally plotting out my degree plan (also, the counsel and administration was total crap for never suggesting this program to me -- I stumbled upon it on the university web portal sophomore year). It was a good experience but wasn't really something I can put on my resume.
