I have mixed feelings of BF1, from a history/culture perspective. It is a good thing that EA used their massive reach to sell a game that teaches some small pieces of history instead of yet another "what-if" near-future war scenario. There are some historical facts in the game, namely the single player campaign and the "Operations" multiplayer game mode (which are supposed to be strictly based on historical battles). On the other hand, it is of course a video game that throws specific details out of the window in favor of a fun game. But I think they put in enough historical fact such that anyone who would be interested in the history learns just enough to pique their interest so they learn more on their own. Our own history is very fascinating and even quite dramatic without any Hollywood-esque embellishment, it always disappoints me that most people don't care about it or think it's boring.
