@John Borell III To be blunt, it shows a possible lack of forethought. Tattoos don't usually transition well into middle age. Your skin gets wrinkly, what if you get fat or your body shape changes, etc. I never quite understood large tattoos for this reason; it always struck me as an impulsive choice.
