  1. The 30 Years' War was one of the most horrible wars in European history and most people barely know about it. The Hundred Years' War was bad, of course, but it had lulls because England had to war with France which was a greater logistical burden, and it was an earlier time period which ironically, usually resulted in less death. Most of the time, only a small minority (around 10%) of soldiers needed to die in a melee before a battle was over. The 30 Years' War was basically "What if the Sengoku period were in Germany instead?" It was the 1600s and guns and artillery were in common usage, increasing the casualty counts significantly.
