  1.  Bruce Wayne  It isn't "racism" per se so much as "history is written by the victors." Much of our history of the pre-medieval period comes from records kept by Christian monks, who in turn preserved Roman records and art. They revered Rome because they were the premier Christian empire before they fell. It just so happened that Rome's conquerors, oddly enough, grew to admire the empire they just destroyed. If you learned history purely from sources which trace back to Roman sources (which is not very typical nowadays even in the west) then yeah, you'll probably think that the Romans were the ancient peak of civilization, even hundreds of years after they fell, and they treated everyone fairly.
