My buddy agreed to have some panels installed on his home to the tune of around $25k. The company delivered a bunch of parts to his driveway, just sitting there -- thousands and thousands of dollars of parts -- 3 days early (they were supposed to start on Monday, parts arrived on Friday). Monday rolls around. Turns out they were parts that did not at all fit the specifications on the contract. When he complained they threatened to sue. When he called their bluff they chickened out. Solar panels are a bit of a scam industry sadly.

@trix8669 They'd change for the better if we got rid of incarceration and reinstated corporeal punishment. I really don't know when or why we got off thinking that imprisoning someone for months or years at a time and just letting them back out into society at large like nothing's wrong was a good idea. After they made a bunch of friends in prison with other criminals, no less. Just take a few flogs, lose an extremity, whatever, and be done with it. On a primal level, people respond to that better, and criminals are statistically impulsive, primal people. You may think the person might be too disabled to work now that they've been injured, but the same applies to our current prison system. It is just much more expensive, and encourages more crime because the criminals there share ideas with one another while incarcerated. But there's too much money in it for lawyers and other members of this corrupt legal system. Jail is a huge moneymaker, just not for the taxpayer.

@pwilliam255 It went off "negligently." This is the proper term when dealing with poor firearms discipline. Much in the same way the father likely neglects his son.

I was recently the victim of a package thief this Christmas season. I just so happened to order pet supplies two weeks before Christmas. One of the packages was late, and one morning some guy walking his dog turns up to my door and says "this was left opened on my cul de sac with your name and address on it." I'd like to have seen the look of the idiot who opened it to find a six-pack of cans of dog food instead of an expensive Christmas gift.

@tinknal6449 You can bitch about society all you want and get nowhere, or you can take the easy road and take actions that YOU, as an individual, can take to mitigate risk. I know which option I take. It's why I have a license to carry, why I have mace, and why I've taken martial arts classes. And I'm an adult man no less. It's called being risk averse. It is ALWAYS easier to change yourself than to change the world.

@FantomMisfit Yes? Take a look at Britney Spears. There's a reason why a conservatory was created for her. Woman is not right in the head. You can assess the situation and protect those you love, or you can let them fall to ruin. Your choice. It's even worse if you have to inherit their debt.

They're a very edge case product. If you are off grid, obviously they can be very useful. For most, it's a scam. Especially in nations like Germany, where the government pushes it very hard. For those who don't know, Germany is a nation that gets very little wind and a lot of rain and overcast weather. Drive through the nation and you'll see a ton of houses with panels on them. Makes no sense.

@RandomPerson-nd2ey Utter clownishness. It is legally safer for the law abiding citizen to carry a gun for defense. Why? Because dead men tell no tales. I don't need some asshole lawyer defending my theoretical assailant for a rigged jury and a corrupt judge. Besides, the law doesn't differentiate between a knife and a gun. They're both lethal weapons. You could run the guy over with your car and still be in the clear. Not to mention the danger to yourself of getting in a knife fight, probably the most dangerous type of fight there is unless you both have guns. In which case, well, you know the old adage.

Call me naive, but who withdraws a giant bag full of cash in the first place? People have this unreasonable idea that money is more secure when it's in cash form. Or that mail is more secure when it is in paper form and has to go through the hands of a dozen postal workers, any one of whom could screw up. The truth is digital is more secure by a long shot. If your credit card gets stolen, all it takes is a phone call and the problem is solved at no cost to you.
