Billionaires are the problem.

@dorothydotson7154 Which is still a socialist ideology.
1
@dorothydotson7154 The problem is that most democratic socialists are reformists.
1
@Dorothy Dotson Reforms can be undone, so I don't see them as a viable method for achieving socialism.
1
@Dorothy Dotson Revolution, but before that can happen, the working class will have to get class consciousness.
1
@Dorothy Dotson While Bernie has helped, he doesn't fight hard enough. The only way to break through decades of capitalist propaganda and apathy is for socialists to educate other people and build a large movement or form a communist party.
1
@dorothydotson7154 I don't see the issue with communism.
1
@dorothydotson7154 A communist society would have common ownership of productive property.
1
@Dorothy Dotson Governments wouldn't have much power in a communist society due to it being stateless, and it would definitely be classless as the capitalist class would be defeated during the dictatorship of the proletariat which is a transitionary stage. As for democratic socialism, that is still a post-capitalist ideology.
1
@dorothydotson7154 Common ownership isn't the same as state ownership.
1
@dorothydotson7154 I don't see how common ownership of the means of production goes against human nature.
1
@Dorothy Dotson Communism still allows for individual ownership of personal property, but productive property would be held in common.
1
@Dorothy Dotson When Marx was talking about private property, he was referring to private ownership of productive property. A house isn't productive property, but a factory would be considered productive property.

@Dorothy Dotson There is a debate on whether China is still a socialist state. Some would say that it is, and some say it hasn't been since the economic reforms. However, collective ownership of land is a good thing as it prevents a small minority from having too much power.
1
@Dorothy Dotson China hasn't achieved communism. In fact, all socialist countries that exist or have existed have not achieved communism. It can only be achieved when certain conditions are present. Capitalism has served a purpose, and that was the overthrow of the feudal system in a number of countries. However, the issues of capitalism are becoming worse and worse, and therefore, we must move beyond capitalism towards communism.
1
@Dorothy Dotson It can be achieved, but it will take time, and a communist society is better because there would be no class antagonism. We can start by encouraging cooperation as it fits well with our nature as social animals. Einstein had a good idea for an educational system, and it was one that would be oriented towards social goals.
1
@dorothydotson7154 North Korea hasn't achieved communism either.
1
@dorothydotson7154 What makes it unable to work?
1
@dorothydotson7154 Communism isn't the antithesis of striving.
1
@Dorothy Dotson You seem more like a modern social democrat than a socialist.
1
@Dorothy Dotson Modern social democracy supports capitalism, while democratic socialism is post-capitalist.
1
@dorothydotson7154 Not really.
1
@Dorothy Dotson So you say that capitalism isn't working for the majority of people, yet you don't want to abolish it. That makes no sense.
1
@Dorothy Dotson Feudalism was the dominant system until capitalism replaced it, and the system that will replace capitalism is communism.
