@imnotusingmyrealname4566 absolutely the bigger the tyres the lower the crawl ratio needs to be.

you missed the mark describing ifs shortcomings offroad, they have good stationary ground clearance but when a wheel goes up the diff centre stays pretty much where it was. solid axle the wheel goes up and so does the diff centre. so ground clearance on an ifs is variable a solid axle its a fixed number. ifs is sketchy on steep downhill grades when one tyre tucks and the vehicle wants to flip over it. also the inherent weakness of ifs axles and flimsy steering and all that gets far worse if you try to lift it. jeep really didn't need a 35" tyre option, that's only for people that assess a vehicles worth by comparing numbers on paper. and as everyone should already know you can just add larger tyres to the wrangler yourself anyway

"the defender would be better for day to day use with 5 seats and more storage" you know jeep make a wrangler unlimited that has 5 seats, more storage and still probably weighs and costs less than the defender right? in future if the first car struggles and the second one walks it, take the first one back down for another go to eliminate any doubt if it was a consequence of going first. in this case i'm sure it wasn't, but it needs to be done anyway.

it was never a question let alone an age old question. Jeep has always been better

jeep was the first production 4wd with independent suspension. the ifs vs solid axle was never a debate you choose which one suits you. solid axle for hard offroading and simplicity. ifs for ride comfort and handling.

you can whinge about recirculating ball steering boxes all you like once you've come up with a better steering arrangement for an offroad vehicle. because rack and pinion sure aint it. someone also needs to tell you nobody is buying the toyota tough bs anymore, it would be lucky to still be in one piece if it really had to follow the rubicon at the rubicons level. the bronco is still on an obsolete 14yo px ranger/everest platform but it is a fantastic colour.

it's nice to dream, but don't have yourself on.

beadlocks are not illegal. modified or unapproved wheels are not legal. which is homemade beadlocks or wheels that haven't had the expensive testing and approval due to low volume sales. there are approved beadlocks, and the opinion stated in the video of the tyre not being able to come off the rim and potentially cause a rollover is laughable.

this was painful to watch two novice 4wdrivers speculating about why the vehicle is at fault. the jeep isn't the issue here. tyre pressure too high, poor line selection, no commitment to steady momentum or throttle control. ordinarily i'd say skill comes with practice. but seeing as you're already presenting yourselves as experienced please do some offroad driver training with someone experienced.

funny how land rover were trying to hype the new defender up as being the most capable production 4wd. have to say it didn't live up to the hype and the wrangler rubicon still owns that title.
1
lol that wrangler will still be going long after the 4runner is in the scrap yard.
1
yeah but then you can't say the new tyre sponsor is so much better.

the jl looks like it was made for it. it just works so well.

you're getting head toss because you have 21.7 psi in the tyres and didn't disconnect the swaybar. 33's on a 2 door wrangler means road pressure is probably around 26-28psi if you do a chalk test 20psi is a good start for high speed 2wd dirt road comfort but you should be at 15psi at least for slow speed 4wdriving
