the greatest aussie sporting moment was breaking the longest winning streak in history ever (100yrs) and winning the americas cup. it came right down to the wire and the new york yacht club tried to use every trick in the rule book to stop it. there is a documentary movie about it on youtube called "aussie assault" and it's well worth watching even if you couldn't care less about sailing. you can have multinational crews now and quite often the american and new zealand skippers are aussies. because australians were up in the early hours of the morning watching the cup live on tv the prime minister (bob hawke) said "any boss who sacks anyone for not turning up to work today is a bum"
