  1. american currency is metric so americans use metric all their lives. there's absolutely no reason us citizens couldn't convert to metric tomorrow for measurement. the reason usa didn't is all it's manufacturing machines were in imperial it's not so easy to change out lead screws on lathes etc. but now with more and machines being replaced with metric anyway for ease of use that's becoming less of an issue.
