  1. yeah they teach basic survival and 1st aid in regional schools. like carry/ration water, stay with your car, rest in the middle of the day, pressure bandage snake bite technique etc. actual long term survival comes from watching bush tucker man, malcolm douglas etc. animal behaviour from rob bredl, steve irwin, harry butler, ian beat hill etc. vehicle based preparation and survival is regularly touched on in any of the numerous 4wd tv shows. but also a lot of it is inherent all australians have an understanding of heat/water needs, most states it's compulsory to learn to swim from an early age. and when you get in the outback for real there's warning signs specifically outlining things you need and the seriousness of where you're headed.
