  1. the 2f is not worth keeping unless you want a 100% original resto. so now that we've all stopped laughing get that 2f out of there. the best swap for an fj without doubt is just a regular small block chevy it's practically a bolt in, it's lighter, better performing and far cheaper to maintain and it uses far less fuel. don't get carried away looking for horsepower just a nice 350 with a dual plane intake and rv cam and either an offroad carb like holley truck avenger or a simple tbi setup. and i can't recall what year they changed but i'd check that rear diff isn't the old c-clip one. the suspension was never good on them somehow you could drop one wheel in a 4" hole and lift the opposite wheel 6" so good aftermarket springs are needed. personally i'd look for a set of 60 series diffs and put arb air lockers in them the 60 series 5 speed would also be nice if you plan on using it to go places.
