OK, so I will preface this comment by saying it's a lot of conjecture; in my defence, when we don't have the facts to ascertain a thing, our choices are conjecture or darkness. I choose the light. Don't hate.
So anyway, I've for a long time assumed that Eddie "Liger" Smith is a daily, hardcore alcoholic from his mannerisms and speech. My father, grandmother and best friend were all functional alcoholics, so I'm pretty highly attuned to the "tells". Anyway, I would never chalk this up to anything more than a medical condition in and of itself...but for the added context of an early-twenties uni student with an apparently unlimited budget to push fake, bastardized Marxism (i.e. "patriotic American socialism") onto kids so they come to believe that one can both have the cake of liberating workers while also eating the cake of liberation for the Indigenous* peoples who are victims of an ongoing genocide to this day.
This being the case, one must ask if the mental "tools", if one can call them that, used by alcoholics in daily life to cope with the stress of being found out are also useful in pushing CIA propaganda. I mean, I'd say Smith and Garrido are both quite well-versed in Marxist literature and thought...yet they come to a completely different conclusion than people like Lenin, Stalin and Mao (while bastardizing their positions and claiming them as allies). In this vein, the concept of a "purity fetish" being pushed by these same people who presume to shut down people's liberation movements with dogmatism over century-old texts is HILARIOUS.
With all of the above said, the actual thrust of this comment was with regard to how Smith and Garrido are behaving on camera. In Smith's case, it's WRT the recent Black Red Guard video "How Much Can He Take? BRG watches Vaush", where Comrade BRG notices how in his "debate" with Vaush, Smith looked evasive and mendacious because he wouldn't look at the camera. (I would add that he was also sweaty and red-faced, like he just shotgunned a can of beer, and his speech was disjointed compared to more eloquent "Liger" videos.)
Now, compare to this video. Even when Jyotishman was listing his bona fides at the beginning, Carlos was turning back and forth in his chair, kinda staring off into space. Now I'm at 8:18, and he's doing it while he answers, turning and not looking at the camera. I don't view this as a "Parenti flubs the mic" thing either, but as a sign of extreme nervousness...but why? He's here among friends, he has wide latitude to present his thesis, he knows his material quite well...but he's nervous.
It's nice to imagine a world where everyone is sincere and has no agenda, but I think enough people are doing that sort of analysis. I'm saying "Midwestern Marx" is Langley all the way.
*The word "Indigenous" is problematic, inasmuch as the original meaning is something (e.g a people-group) which is self-replicating. It didn't originally connote a connection to the place where the self-replication happened.

@clandestineclara9355 With respect, you haven't broken any new ground with your reply. The tactic is a failure, and repeating it for further decades will only cost more Palestinian lives and land. The real enemy is, and must be understood to be, CAPITALISM. Workers can never beg their enslavers to give them freedom...it must be taken! This is why after the same number of decades and with nearly the same population, China (which took power from capitalists with a violent revolution) is the richest country on Earth, and India (which begged for "independence" from Britain) doesn't even crack the top ten.
Bottom line: You cannot demand that people sacrifice themselves on the pyre of good intentions when the system, as you correctly pointed out, will do all it can to hide, obfuscate, diminish and demean their sacrifice! If people are going to sacrifice, let it be a tangible one, with rifle in hand!

@clandestineclara9355 BDS cannot work. Let's break it down point by point:
-boycott: This action is intended to be carried out by individual "consumers", but...what does "Israel" make for (export) sale to consumers? SodaStreams and hydroponic basil...what else? Not much. In fact, 80% of the Z...ist economy is "B2B", or business-to-business sales, the lion's share of which is oil, gas and chemicals. This means that unless you personally are in the market for millions of barrels of oil, your boycott won't much affect the occupiers.
The organized BDS campaign has tried to expand this outward to Amerikkkan and other companies who "do business with Israel" like HP, McDonald's and others, but most people don't know about that. Moreover (IMO), the people most likely to empathize with the Palestinian liberation struggle are typically the poorest; this means both that they often have no choice but to buy a given computer, fast food meal, etc., and that their miniscule buying power is a rounding error for these megacorporations. This is to say nothing about the idea that boycotting companies which do business with or in occupied Palestine in order to spend instead with European occupiers of other places doesn't make much sense to those of us seeking liberation not only for Palestinians, but also Filipinos, Guaraní, Kanien'kehá:ka and Irish, let alone liberation of all workers from the shackles of capitalism.
divestment: This means to withdraw one's investments from companies of the type I mentioned above. Again, though, most people have no investments whatsoever (!), and most of those who do have them don't own individual stocks but rather have some sort of managed retirement savings plan, often through an employer, or union or professional association. This means that a) most people have NO CLUE where their money is invested and may not have the time or the inclination to find out, and b) even if they wanted their plans to divest from "Israel", they would be a lone voice in the wilderness, particularly inasmuch as Z...ist infiltration and control of financial services - which runs all of these investment schemes -- is total. Hell, just making noise about it could leave a person tarred as an "antisemite" among their colleagues, or even result in unemployment! I'm not saying people ought not take such risks for a righteous cause, but they currently are not doing so, and it's hard to blame them when the result is so uncertain.
In short, divestment relies on the notion that "people power" can restrain capitalism. It cannot.
-sanctions: This is an action which can only be carried out by (bourgeois) governments, virtually all of which are under the sway of the world hegemon, the United States. This means that no matter how broad the support for any particular movement (national liberation, anti-war/anti-imperialism, opposing police brutality, socialism/communism, etc.), the bourgeoisie still have the power to suppress them. In London, Palestinian demos have gotten hundreds of thousands of participants...yet the UK government is among the staunchest supporters of "Israel" (indeed, that government created it, namely Arthur Balfour). So...does it sound like any sanctions will be forthcoming?
BDS is a failure. It just makes a few Western activists feel like they're doing something where they are, even as Palestinians are being harassed, dispossessed and slaughtered on their own land as a matter of course. I haven't even watched this video, but I expect Norm still views armed struggle against the occupiers as the only way to achieve liberation. Absent evidence to the contrary, this is my position also.

1:03:04 Places don't want anything. People do. In keeping with the point, literally not one thing is agreed upon by all the people in China. Framing China -- that is, the people -- as monolithic is a Western narrative we should get away from. People in China are like those elsewhere: They disagree on everything! In a mega-population area, even tiny fringe movements or beliefs will have several million adherents.
Maybe this is the essence of democracy: That every idea put forth in a given society be challenged. A sort of Anglo common law framework where a concept is the defendant and society is the Crown, or in boxing terms, a new idea is the challenger to the reigning champion, tradition.
Anyway, I'm just blathering so that the you-know-what gives your channel more viewer sauce. Enjoyed the talk, as usual.
Oh, and Vijay: Your talk had more feedback than a Jimi Hendrix concert. Gotta point the speakers away from your mic, if you can. If your device is unitary (e.g. laptop, phone, tablet, AIO, etc.), you can move your phone and/or turn down your speaker volume, or use a headset. This can be a fancy headset that makes you look like you should be sitting beside John Madden at the Super Bowl, or stock cell phone earbuds which have a mic on the cord (where the answer button is). No hate at all, but good to prevent if possible. It's like the 21st C. version of smeared ink on a page of text.
