Criminalize ever more poor people. 2. Encourage business owners to require "clean" criminal record checks for service sector jobs. 3. Cry on behalf of biz owners, claiming they can't find a soul in Edmonton who will serve coffee and donuts for minwage plus tips. 4. Flood the labour market with a class of worker who is even more vulnerable than poor people in "Canada."

  5. "Canada" is not short of housing. It's short of people who own housing that will rent it out for a sum affordable by workers. How many single-detached homes sit empty for years at a time? And in the end, such places are often sold to speculators who will turn one such house into 10 "rooms", usually for TFWs being milked by their recruiter/employer/landlord before being discarded back to India or Mexico $20k in debt. (Edit: Or they demolish it, sever the lot and build two god-awful cubic monstrosities, which then sell for $1.3M apiece in my neighbourhood. And it's the ghetto.)

  14. True. People often come to hold a naïve belief when being oppressed that whoever or whatever comes after will be better. Mostly, tho, it gets worse because this belief stops workers from being rational and acting in their collective interest. It's the residue of Christianity, tbh.

A blanket tariff hits literally every business -- like me when I was selling used auto parts on eBay that I'd get from the scrapyard -- whereas corporate tax rate increases only hit subject corporations with net revenue (as opposed to net loss). The solution is the oppression of rich people by workers; sadly, there is no well-tested recipe to accomplish this. When you include eligible voters who didn't cast a ballot, those who spoiled their ballots in protest, those who voted for a candidate other than Liberal, and those not eligible to vote (under-18s and non-citizen residents), most people did NOT vote for Trudeau. I take it you're a Yank.

The category existed for decades as a niche, used primarily to bring in around 20k Jamaican workers to Southern Ontario during the farming season, who'd then go home with a chunk of change (still surely inadequate, like all workers under capitalism, but better than nothin'. Since Stephen Harper's Tories, though, the program has brought in several hundred thousand people in non-seasonal jobs, working at places like Walmart, Tim Hortons (coffee shop chain) and McDonald's, as well as driving trucks and delivering Amazon packages and take-away food. In practice, no finite season means employers abuse workers with impunity, armed with the implicit threat that if they don't capitulate, they'll be on the next flight back to Delhi or México City.

Jack Layton also ran around the GTA in 2011 yelling "Slave Ukraini" for votes from those who built that cemetery in Oakville. He would have sucked the seed from Hitler to get into 24 Sussex...
