Prolly was a throwaway joke for most viewers, but there's something to it. Black cis women have long been mocked for looking or even acting too "masculine". That's been simply moved onto Black trans women. and then all trans women, many of whom may well look or act more masculine owing to the Y chromosome. Of course, that's exacerbated for poor trans people (which is something like 50% overall; surely much higher for Black and other non-white trans people) by no or sporadic access to medical/pharmacare.
Oh, and that's obviously just one example that happens to one group of oppressed people. Indigenous people have their own issues with the whole shit, one of which is the lack of acknowledgement of two-spirit people in white-dominated discussions of "LGBT", "LGBTQ", or occasionally in Canada, "LGBTQ2SS"...but rarely with further explanation Also, notice how a group that is distinctly "First Nations" (itself a kludgy colonial-ism [colonialism-ism?] phrase) is added at the end, as an afterthought, on their own fucking land! Now, we're at two examples just out of my ass. Look ma, no Google! There are countless examples of racist transphobia, and to again talk out of my ass, so many instances of it happening to oppressed racialized people necessarily will cause some bleed-through to white trans people. Think of news articles of toxic men hurting or killing trans people as "marketing", which other such men are susceptible to, thus increasing the odds they "buy the product" (namely, violence against trans women).
In short, everything you think is "neutral" is actually racist. That's how the racists get away with it. "Cry wolf", etc. The question then is, what will you do when the wolves come for you and yours again and again? 🤔

This is kinda a huge question/thought sequence, so I'm gonna babble a bit, with your indulgence. First, there's the question of ethnic identity, which is broadly understood as "East-West divide" here in so-called North America (I live in Amerikkka's brutal colonial neighbour with better PR, "Canada"). Of course, this isn't too definitive, which is why it's pushed more here among the "Ukrainian diaspora" than among actual Ukrainians. To this point, pre-WWII Ukrainian immigration especially to the Canadian Prairies was overwhelmingly socialist, with the tide only turning when the war ended, and Canada imported Ukrainians by the thousands. Some liberal clowns like to pretend that many of them being Banderist Nazis was an oversight, to which I reply, "Bullshit!"

Instead, she opted to air her grievances publicly to her virtually all-white audience. And she's sticking to that, no apology or concessions of any kind. Same for Debbie "Sane" Lusignan, who is making copyvio threats to Anoa over an honest misunderstanding (or worse, over a video she yanked then reposted on F***book?), but not retracting or apologizing for the content of said video, where she tars Anoa Changa, Jacqueline and others with the "identity politics" slur because her bestie wasn't allowed to livestream.
The whole issue here is intellectual honesty. In that vein, I think we have to be intellectually honest enough to address Claudia's betrayal of trust, which is the crux of the issue. For the same reason, we also can't ignore the day and a half that passed between Stauber's "victimhood" and her "racism!" video. I also don't like that your video kinda mirrors KKKlaudia's latest video, which has a "let's move on" tone...but no apology, no regret, no acknowledgement of wrongdoing or even of her oppressors' (ha!) humanity, in the way you are at least ascribing it to both camps.
Anoa didn't misunderstand anything, and dismissing it as such is wrong. As with the Maher video, we're not gonna agree on this. Still love ya though, buddy.

I'm having a hard time finding a citation of this; Googoo has been deliberately tanking search results for at least 5 years now, and I presume others are similar. Nevertheless, it is widely documented that Jews who'd suffered from the Holocaust were in no rush to leave one antagonistic situation for another. Also, much of world Jewry at the time were Sephardic, living in places like Thessaloniki, Baghdad and Algiers; this wouldn't last long, of course.

By "many", I certainly didn't mean to imply the majority. OTOH, Jews participated in and often had leading positions in communist parties and movements, both in the SU/Warsaw Pact and in "the West". OK, so I will preface this comment by saying it's a lot of conjecture; in my defence, when we don't have the facts to ascertain a thing, our choices are conjecture or darkness. I choose the light. Don't hate.
So anyway, I've for a long time assumed that Eddie "Liger" Smith is a daily, hardcore alcoholic from his mannerisms and speech. My father, grandmother and best friend were all functional alcoholics, so I'm pretty highly attuned to the "tells". Anyway, I would never chalk this up to anything more than a medical condition in and of itself...but for the added context of an early-twenties uni student with an apparently unlimited budget to push fake, bastardized Marxism (i.e. "patriotic American socialism") onto kids so they come to believe that one can both have the cake of liberating workers while also eating the cake of liberation for the Indigenous* peoples who are victims of an ongoing genocide to this day.
This being the case, one must ask if the mental "tools", if one can call them that, used by alcoholics in daily life to cope with the stress of being found out are also useful in pushing CIA propaganda. I mean, I'd say Smith and Garrido are both quite well-versed in Marxist literature and thought...yet they come to a completely different conclusion than people like Lenin, Stalin and Mao (while bastardizing their positions and claiming them as allies). In this vein, the concept of a "purity fetish" being pushed by these same people who presume to shut down people's liberation movements with dogmatism over century-old texts is HILARIOUS.
With all of the above said, the actual thrust of this comment was with regard to how Smith and Garrido are behaving on camera. In Smith's case, it's WRT the recent Black Red Guard video "How Much Can He Take? BRG watches Vaush", where Comrade BRG notices how in his "debate" with Vaush, Smith looked evasive and mendacious because he wouldn't look at the camera. (I would add that he was also sweaty and red-faced, like he just shotgunned a can of beer, and his speech was disjointed compared to more eloquent "Liger" videos.)
Now, compare to this video. Even when Jyotishman was listing his bona fides at the beginning, Carlos was turning back and forth in his chair, kinda staring off into space. Now I'm at 8:18, and he's doing it while he answers, turning and not looking at the camera. I don't view this as a "Parenti flubs the mic" thing either, but as a sign of extreme nervousness...but why? He's here among friends, he has wide latitude to present his thesis, he knows his material quite well...but he's nervous.
It's nice to imagine a world where everyone is sincere and has no agenda, but I think enough people are doing that sort of analysis. I'm saying "Midwestern Marx" is Langley all the way.
*The word "Indigenous" is problematic, inasmuch as the original meaning is something (e.g a people-group) which is self-replicating. It didn't originally connote a connection to the place where the self-replication happened.

Jamarl is trying to be fair to all involved on principle, which is admirable, but you're 100% right that the 2 positions/camps/sides of this are not remotely equivalent. Even Jamarl seems to concede this when he says (I'm paraphrasing) that safe spaces for Black people are not only perfectly fine, but that being offended by them is fucked up. I, and perhaps you, go a step further in saying that their offence is not merely fucked up, but racist as fuck, and actually foments hatred and, potentially, violence!
I don't know Jamarl's life besides what he lets us see, so I don't want to presume to know what's in his head. That said, I think he either doesn't have a full grasp of the pervasiveness of institutional racism, or has decided that it's not as important as "real" issues like Stauber and Lusignan apparently have. I choose to believe the former, until proven otherwise.
In any case, I didn't mean to imply he's intellectually dishonest in my other comment per se, but that perhaps his line of thinking led him away from the most salient point, which is Claudia's intellectual dishonesty in claiming "RACISM!" when she didn't get her way. Um, if I may also add, BETTER PERFORMANCE! Electric motors for pumps mean you're not relying on engine speed for output, which means you can have more coolant flow while you sit in traffic, for example. This goes hand in hand with efficiency of course, because flow decreases when not needed (thereby saving the fuel to drive the alternator, which ultimately drives the pumps).
As for electric parking brake, I dunno how to feel about it. Changing a cable is a real motherfucker sometimes, but then, would a car feel like a car if you can't e-brake in snowy parking lots? I dunno, man...

We know damn well that the US government is controlled by capitalists, including those employing lobbyists and the ones elected/appointed/inheritance-ed to office (Trump, King Dumbo of England, Berlusconi, etc.). The usual Marxist analysis I hear, "medical companies that don't trade with Cuba are afraid to also be targeted by US sanctions", is true but incomplete IMO. Basically, the big capitalists decide a matter, telegraph the decision to their minions in the capitalist world's legislatures (esp. US Congress) who then dutifully -- and as immediately as they can get away with -- enshrine the big capitalists' decision in law, making it binding upon potential maverick billionaires and smaller capitalists who either didn't have a say at all or were against the decision (also petit bourgeoisie, workers and peasants, who in fact have a say, but only when they exercise it collectively). This strongly incentivizes "playing ball" with the dominant group, if one hopes to maintain or increase their status. For small capitalists, they might refuse to trade with Cuba to shield workers from unemployment if the company fell out of favour with the dominant group by trading with US sanctioned blockaded countries and named individuals/companies.

I used to work at a gas station, so let's not pretend that you've never left there with hands reeking of STALE GAS. Maybe you've even had a pump nozzle fail and spray you from head to toe! That happened to about 2 customers a month where I worked, because paying people to shut up was cheaper than proper preventative maintenance (e.g. replacing nozzles after a certain period of time, better means to de-water fuel, etc.).
In short, kid, you're dumb. You didn't merit this reply, but hopefully, the next "you" will see this and think before they pop off.

I call the surge tank "the intake bong". The newer one looks like the one I removed from my '95 Grand Am to fit the K&N cone. I probably lost 5 lb.-ft. off the line, but it sounded fuckin' awesome when you punched it! It was a bastardized balance-shaft Quad-4 2.3, with the manual trans. I could hit the 193 km/h 120 MPH governor in fourth gear (RPM: ??? - no tach). In fact, the speed was actually slightly lower because I was running 215/50R15 tires instead of the stock 195/65. Also, the speedometer only went to 180 on that thing...lol.
It was such a strippo car, the only option it had was power locks. And, being a jerk, I took out most of the interior to bring down weight. I mean, I still had a sub and amp, and replaced the donut with a full-size spare for a few more pounds, but it was still light enough and had one passenger seat.
A guy I knew lined up with me at a stop light, driving his '91 Accord. F20, 4-speed automatic, known to be in a good state of tune (but not tuned in the usual sense). I blew his doors off. Previous to that, I had raced that guy and car whilst driving my mom's '93 Plymouth Colt, which was gutless as fuck (4G15, 3-speed slushbox) but had no governor, and being a 3-speed, it topped out ungoverned at almost 190 km/h...which was dead even with that Accord. I would later hit a deer with the Colt, with the Accord guy as my passenger! I then proceeded to spend my Thanksgiving Thankstaking long weekend of 2003 rebuilding the fuckin' thing. Ouf.

Seriously, it wasn't so long ago that I thought a lot like you do, trying to reconcile (no pun intended) the notion of Canada with a fairer deal for "all people". Thing is, not ALL people have any claim to this land! If we truly want to be good to the people on whose lands we exist, we have to actually listen to what they say, and not just in the sense of letting them talk a bit and then taking our own decisions. Thus, the importance of the phrase "free, prior and informed consent"!
For us "white" people, decolonization must first happen in our minds, which comes back to what I was saying about the importance of the words we use to describe ourselves and others. As long as you're still calling yourself "Canadian", you're still identifying as part of the band of thieves. To be clear, there may be contexts where you will say "Canadian" for better understanding (e.g. when talking online to people overaeas), though even there, I'll try to say "so-called Canada" to highlight the artificial nature of the construct in much the same way I put "white" in quotation marks to highlight the artificial nature of that construct!
As to Canadian-ness and ancestry, mine is as muddled as anyone's. My paternal grandfather was out of the picture when my dad was a kid, probably because my grandmother was bat shit crazy. They were both Yanks by birth, interestingly, though my grandmother's family had roots in the Maritimes and Newfoundland since a Loyalist ancestor and his son were expelled from Long Island, NY after the "Revolutionary" War, to be given 40 acres of stolen Miq'mak land in Nova Scotia. I never set eyes on the grandfather even in a photograph, and only ever saw this grandmother 3 times in my life.
On my mum's side, my grampa was born in Montreal in the early 1920s to two "Italian" parents (Italy is another fake country; my great-grandmother was from Campania, and my great-grandfather was from Umbria), and my grandmother was born out of wedlock to a lady of Irish ancestry and a fellow of Scottish descent, and subsequently given up for adoption to a Yorkshire lady (who possibly arrived in a similar to your grampa). These were my "real" grandparents, in the sense that they were the only ones I knew.
All this to say that, with some deprogramming, I've managed to stop romanticizing these origins and their "Canadian-ness". In reality, this story has played out millions of times in dozens of places around the globe. And, as with "newcomers" now, none of these people left their lives, friends and families back home because they wanted to, but out of sheer necessity. What is presented as "seeking opportunities" was simply seeking the opportunity to not die!

@Altruistic00 Fuel efficiency, and in particular, Toyota's fleet fuel efficiency RE: US EPA's CAFE standards (IMO). As SK99 says, the new Toyota engine designs will use it in all markets. I have concerns too, but less about burning oil -- though I'm still wary after the 1ZZ undersized piston scandalette -- and more about decreased lubricity for the ever-shrinking bearings.
Progress is such that engines should be longer and longer lived...except that would be less profitable. So instead, they slice and dice every design down to the cheapest fucking thing, and instead of aiming for improvement on something like engine longevity, they just aim to match the current standard.
Of course, if they did it any other way, it wouldn't be long before their prices were out of line with the competition, and then bankruptcy. I fucking HATE capitalism, but we have to be honest about how it operates if we're to truly understand the predicament we're in as a species...

-boycott: This action is intended to be carried out by individual "consumers", but...what does "Israel" make for (export) sale to consumers? SodaStreams and hydroponic basil...what else? Not much. In fact, 80% of the Z...ist economy is "B2B", or business-to-business sales, the lion's share of which is oil, gas and chemicals. This means that unless you personally are in the market for millions of barrels of oil, your boycott won't much affect the occupiers.
The organized BDS campaign has tried to expand this outward to Amerikkkan and other companies who "do business with Israel" like HP, McDonald's and others, but most people don't know about that. Moreover (IMO), the people most likely to empathize with the Palestinian liberation struggle are typically the poorest; this means both that they often have no choice but to buy a given computer, fast food meal, etc., and that their miniscule buying power is a rounding error for these megacorporations. This is to say nothing about the idea that boycotting companies which do business with or in occupied Palestine in order to spend instead with European occupiers of other places doesn't make much sense to those of us seeking liberation not only for Palestinians, but also Filipinos, Guaraní, Kanien'kehá:ka and Irish, let alone liberation of all workers from the shackles of capitalism.
divestment: This means to withdraw one's investments from companies of the type I mentioned above. Again, though, most people have no investments whatsoever (!), and most of those who do have them don't own individual stocks but rather have some sort of managed retirement savings plan, often through an employer, or union or professional association. This means that a) most people have NO CLUE where their money is invested and may not have the time or the inclination to find out, and b) even if they wanted their plans to divest from "Israel", they would be a lone voice in the wilderness, particularly inasmuch as Z...ist infiltration and control of financial services - which runs all of these investment schemes -- is total. Hell, just making noise about it could leave a person tarred as an "antisemite" among their colleagues, or even result in unemployment! I'm not saying people ought not take such risks for a righteous cause, but they currently are not doing so, and it's hard to blame them when the result is so uncertain.
In short, divestment relies on the notion that "people power" can restrain capitalism. It cannot.
-sanctions: This is an action which can only be carried out by (bourgeois) governments, virtually all of which are under the sway of the world hegemon, the United States. This means that no matter how broad the support for any particular movement (national liberation, anti-war/anti-imperialism, opposing police brutality, socialism/communism, etc.), the bourgeoisie still have the power to suppress them. In London, Palestinian demos have gotten hundreds of thousands of participants...yet the UK government is among the staunchest supporters of "Israel" (indeed, that government created it, namely Arthur Balfour). So...does it sound like any sanctions will be forthcoming?
BDS is a failure. It just makes a few Western activists feel like they're doing something where they are, even as Palestinians are being harassed, dispossessed and slaughtered on their own land as a matter of course. I haven't even watched this video, but I expect Norm still views armed struggle against the occupiers as the only way to achieve liberation. Absent evidence to the contrary, this is my position also.

It's not just that OEMs don't make them separate for USDM, but in order to import a European car for use on US roads, you have to install the American parts. Oddly, that's not true in Canada, likely due to pressure from Volvo when they built some cars in Nova Scotia. The same is not true of bumpers, however, so Canadian importers still must install 5 MPH (it's legally called 8 km/h, but I promise you, it's 5 MPH) bumpers. There are also the huge tires which have a high embodied energy cost, and wear fast with 5000 pounds and almost 500kW bearing down on them. Oh, and let's not forget the power source used to charge the mighty (large) Tesla in many (most?) places in the US is also coal, nuclear or/and natgas. Every mile driven is more pollution for people not lucky enough to be inside the carbon-filtered cockpit.
Up here, Quebec has massive hydroelectric dams covering several thousand square miles, and makes enough power for its own needs and those of several states in the US Northeast. The trouble with that? The land flooded by damming was mostly forest, which actually makes more GHGs in decomposing than the entire project will save over the course of a century. No shit.
It also results in the leaching of lead into the water table, killing both the wildlife and Indigenous peoples (Cree, Inuit, Innu) who live in Northern Quebec with disproportionate levels of cancers and reproductive harms associated with (wait for it...) exposure to lead.
The key point here is, regardless of fuel source, hammering the shit out of your car pollutes a lot more than not doing so. A lighter vehicle will also out-accelerate and out-brake a heavier one -- all other things being equal -- while requiring less fuel do to so (again, regardless of fuel type).

As for efficiency, my dear dino troll, it will drop to no less than 80% @ 1000 cycles for my li-ion pack, and 90% for my LiFePO^4 pack. These are very conservative estimates, designed to replicate what a "normal" user might get from a poorly matched battery pack, charger and motor controller, which is often what's supplied with a fully-built ebike.
My setup, OTOH, is well-matched, with the motor controller cutting off at 3.3V/cell, rather than the more deleterious 2.5V/cell that Sony tested the VTC6 cells in my pack to. I also charge to a mere 4.08V instead of 4.2V for the same reason. If you search any number of forums where people use li-ion cells (ebike, vape, flashlight, drone, RC, etc.), you'll see that people are getting 1000+ cycles to *90%* capacity with reasonable charging and discharging.
Capacity also drops more when a cell is pushed closer to its power (current) limits, but the VTC6 cell is good for 30A continuous, my pack is 6P (so, 180A total) and I never draw more than around 50A in short bursts (e.g. 5 seconds, taking off from a dead stop).
Oh, and my other pack is a 16S Headway 40152S. Those are good for 150A continuous which, again, I never come close to. Those ones can literally start a car, and will in all likelihood be what I use to power the kWeld I'm buying next month (reconfigured to 4P4S).
How's my math now, bitch? You got the flavour yet???

@chadingram6390 Sorry for not replying sooner, but I must have said a no-no word to someone because Pootoob blocked me from commenting for 12 hours. I know, you're shocked! (Also, it took hours to type this, between doing other things.) Anyway, that did give me some time to drill down on this.
Can you turn a wrench? Can you operate a zip tie? Great! That's pretty much all you need to install the motor wheel and wiring on your bike. Depending on how ghetto you can deal with your bike looking, you might well use zip ties to mount the controller as well, like I do. Otherwise, there are frame bags that velcro onto your top tube and have a hole for the wires to come out; they make for a cleaner install, but I'm wary of the shoddy manufacture of the bags. Even so, you could use the bag and zip ties to be super secure.
The wiring seems complicated at first, but it's actually pretty easy. There are 5 fatter wires on the typical "aluminum box" controller: red (+) and black (-) go to your battery, and 3 go to your motor (blue, yellow and green; these are called "phase wires"). Along with the phase wires, there will also be 5 thin wires for the Hall sensors (red and black to power the sensors, and blue, yellow and green for the sensor signals, one for each "phase"...notice the colours are the same). There are "sensorless" controllers that don't even need those last 5 wires, but the cheapest ones usually do, and "sensorless" is usually not as smooth and has trouble starting from a dead stop. There are usually a shitload of other wires, but all you really need is the throttle, which will be a 3-wire connector (red=positive, black=negative, white=0 to 5 volt throttle signal). If you want to be super fancy about it, you can also hook up a pedal assist sensor to give you motor power when you pedal, and "ebrakes" to cut motor power when you brake (also for regen, if your controller is capable...this is not recommended for front-wheel drive!)
You don't even need to know any of this wiring stuff if you buy a complete kit with motor, controller, battery and throttle, because it'll have foolproof connectors that can only go one way...but that's more expensive. You said "cheap as possible", right? I grew up in the projects, and my grampa was Italian from the WWII generation, so I know cheap! lol
The battery is generally the most expensive part, but a few things work to your advantage here:
1. You're not a fat pig like me, which is to say, you have less "frontal area" (actual weight isn't as much of a concern as wind resistance).
2. Your desired range is fairly modest.
3. People are pretty fucked for money nowadays, so used things sell for cheap as balls.
Even so, it's better to overshoot a bit on battery capacity because of things like headwinds, hills, added cargo (again, frontal area matter more than weight), and declining battery capacity with use. On that last point, tho, you can help this a lot by keeping your charging and discharging within certain parameters. Namely, for a "normal" lithium-ion battery (so, not lithium iron phosphate, a.k.a. LiFePO4), you would ideally charge no higher than 4.08-4.13 volts per cell, and discharge no lower than 3.0-3.3V/cell. The discharging is usually easy enough to tackle, by using a controller with a low-voltage cutoff that works out to around 3.3V/cell for the pack you have (e.g. an LVC of 33V for a 36V nominal pack, whose fully-charged voltage will actually be 40.8-41.3V). When you hit the LVC, the controller will cut out. Of course, if you plan this right for your proposed range goals, this will happen rarely or never! And, if/when it does, you won't be kicking the shit out of the battery's cell life.
For the charging, it basically depends on what you end up with for a battery and charger. Some will not be adjustable, but those are often fixed at 4.1 volts per cell...that's what we want! If instead you opt for a "real" ebike battery, you'll often end up with a charger that has a knob (potentiometer) inside that you can twiddle to tune the voltage to exactly what you want. Test it first tho, because it might already be in the happy range.
Now, you might still wondering "But what do I buy, asshole?" The answer is...well, it depends! The controller will have a maximum voltage (go over this and you'll blow it) and a minimum voltage (below which it will turn off; that's the "low-voltage cutoff" or LVC I mentioned above), so your battery needs to fall within this range. IOW, you can't decide on a controller until you figure out what you're doing for a battery. You can buy controllers that have adjustable LVC, but these will typically cost more.
To give a proper, thoughtful recommendation, it would help me a lot to know a few things. How familiar are you with electricity? Have you done some soldering? Used a digital multimeter? How low you can go on cost, or rather how much you get for your money, depends a lot on these things. They're not hard to learn, but the consequences of getting it wrong can be dire...like burning down your house! That's no different than gasoline, it's just...different. If you're not comfortable with this stuff, you can defo buy a factory-built battery pack, it's just gonna cost more.
For that matter, if you can put a dollar figure on your budget, that would help a lot! I told the CHUD above that I spent $500, but again, this is with me assembling a battery pack. OTOH, pre-made battery pack prices are dropping fast. It's a bit of a crap shoot because you don't know what cells you're getting unless/until you open it up and look inside; your range goal is quite reasonable, but if you want decent speed, you need cells that can put out high power over and over again.
P.S. At anything over 20 MPH, the condition of the road matters a lot. I presume they're pretty good where you're at, but that's just a guess. Up here, we get potholes every spring, some of which are large enough for a large racoon to crawl into. If you have rough roads, you'll want fat tires (not necessarily "fat bike" size; I run Schwalbe Crazy Bobs, 26x2.3"), suspension or both. With the li'l fatties on a fully rigid bike, it's a rough ride on Ottawa roads at 30+ MPH! If you're already used to the idea of riding "loose" like you would on a motorcycle, which is to say not white-knuckling it, you'll be fine. And again, if your roads are smooth, this will be a non-issue.

This is a great start! In terms of getting wired up, this is a fuck of a lot easier than most automotive stuff. If you can wield a multimeter, soldering iron and/or crimpers, you're golden.

No. Sensorless controllers can be used with both geared and gearless motors (gearless is also called "direct drive"). Sensorless-only can be jittery, but some sensored controllers will fall back to sensorless mode if one of your Hall sensors takes a shit; this saves your ass if it happens far from home.
Geared motors are basically small electric motors that run their power into a planetary gearset, like in an automatic tranny. They're lighter and have better torque off the line at a given current level (amps), at the expense of more moving parts. The smaller motor also limits the top end, and because all this stuff is in the same housing, it's hard for the motor to shed heat.
Not many geared motors are reliable at 30 MPH, and the ones that are (BMC, MAC, eZee) are the heavier, more expensive ones. If you push lesser ones, you can end up with "peanut butter gear" (melted nylon planet gears). That said, if you insist on the lightest possible setup, geared is the way to go. You'd probably be fine with a Bafang BPM, especially if you can live with 25 MPH instead of 30.
Direct drive is just what it sounds like: An electric motor with no moving parts, so the only things that can go wrong are the Hall sensors and the bearings. They're heavier tho, so handling can suffer a bit (esp. front-wheel drive), and God help you if you have to carry the thing up stairs regularly! OTOH, if you ever want to hot rod it, direct drive is what you need. You can get these to go as well off the line as geared, if you feed them more amps. That means a more powerful controller and battery, of course.
Oh, and direct drive is quieter. With a sine wave controller, it's basically dead silent. My controller is square wave, which I like specifically because there's a bit of a growl when I crack it. This serves as a warning to people on shared-use pathways! In this vein, you really have to be ready to yell at cars on a fast ebike, because they don't expect you to do the speed you are, and will cut out in front of you like a MFer! I'll be adding an air horn soon.

Defo the controller. Motor wattage ratings are mostly bullshit. In a perfect world, sellers would just say how the motor is wound (how many times the copper wire is turned around each motor pole), so you can do the math yourself. Or, if you're like me, just plug the stats into the Grin Motor Simulator (https://ebikes.ca/tools/simulator.html). The average motor in the cheap Chinese kits like the one I run are 6 turns or 7 turns, particularly on a 26" rim. In the Grin motor sim, you're looking for 9C+ 2706 (6T) or 2707 (7T) in the motor list; fewer turns = higher top speed at a given voltage. 9C stands for Nine Continents, which is a brand name; most of the Chinese kits are 9C clones.
Controller wattage ratings are also bullshit. The main things to focus on are:
-amps (determines your torque)
-maximum volts (determines your top speed), and
-minimum volts (usually called low-voltage cutoff or "LVC", below which the controller turns off the motor)

This is more than enough for your stated 10 miles of range, and 52V should get you right around 30 MPH on the flats. In short, this is good.

Aliexpress is fine for a motor kit and mayyyybe built battery packs, but I wouldn't trust sellers to send genuine 18650 cells. Scams are commonplace, where they get any old cell (emphasis on "old"), slap fake name brand shrink wrap on 'em and sell them for what seems like a good price. Not only are you unlikely to get the capacity they advertise, but mistreated lithium-ion batteries can form copper shunts inside. This leads to fire. Fire is bad.
My first battery pack was 4 Ryobi 18V 9Ah packs -- Home Depot was blowing them out for $100 Canadian apiece -- onto which I soldered a few wires. I had them hooked up 2P2S: Two pairs of packs in parallel, then connected in series, which gave me a 36V 18Ah pack. The cells are Sony VTC6, and I was running them without a BMS (which is bad! don't do this!), and I was getting around 25 MPH and 30 miles of range with pedalling on my 9C clone motor (not sure how many turns; I bought it used on fleabay). No regen either, so there's potentially 6 to 8% additional range there if/when I get a controller with regen. That said, my motor is on the front, and regen is a bad idea on the front.
Did I mention I'm not running a torque arm? Again, don't do this! I've been relying on my fork being chromoly, not using regen (which reverses the torque on the dropouts) and tightening the Christ out of the axle nuts. Don't be like me! Even a rear-drive motor on a steel frame is best with a torque arm, and on aluminum, not using one at the speeds we're talking about is suicidal. I'll be making or buying one before the winter is done, and counting my blessings.

I don't, but I'm considering buying a KWeld to maybe repair packs locally. There are Chinese ones for a lot cheaper, but reviews are hit and miss, and good cells ain't cheap! Thankfully, my current pack has Headway 40152S lithium iron phosphate (a.k.a. LiFePO4) cells, which have screw terminals and bus bars. They're great, but also heavier than I'd like at around 20 lbs. for a 52V 15Ah pack. The flipside is that LiFePO4 has the best cycle life, does higher-amp charging and discharging AND won't spontaneously light on fire no matter what. They will, however, turn a 5mm hex key into a glowing red stove element if you fuck up...ask me how I know! Eesh.

I'd say this depends on how soon you want to be riding. I presume sooner is better in your neck of the woods, but if you're not in a rush (or need to wait to get your money together), you might look at used stuff on ebay. I looked on there last week after your first message, and there were defo some deals on used batteries. The prices of the motors I saw weren't great with shipping factored in, but similar to Ali with a shorter wait. Also, you never know what deal might pop up! Kits are not bad in the sense that you get all the bits you need (and some you may not, like PAS and ebrake handles), but the controller will probably be wimpy. That said, if you buy a more powerful controller on top of that, you might be able to sell the wimpy one locally to offset the cost.
There are also places like Battery Hookup, Battery Clearing House, etc. who sell used batteries for cheap. Some of their stuff is shagged, but some looks good. I haven't bought from them yet, but only because shipping to Canada is expensive. You'll do better on your end, I think.

@speedkar99 You should check out the list yourself. Many econoboxes are actually pretty thirsty, like the later Suzukis (e.g. Esteem, Aerio, Kisashi). I just checked that site, and there are only 136 models built since 1984 which get 35 MPG or better (EDIT: city MPG)...and most of them are 1980s/90s Suzukis of one badge or another. Also, a few CRXs, VW diesels, oddball diesels (Escort/Lynx, Sentra), and just a handful of recent Mitsu Mirages.
Imagine what fuel economy would be like if the shareholders of car companies weren't also the shareholders of oil companies... 🤔
*The highway MPG list is mostly the same cars in the same relative positions, just with higher numbers. Those little Sprints with the 5-speed were exceeding 50 MPG on the highway!

@Andytlp You're generally right, but it should be pointed out that any electrical system is most efficient with the shortest possible circuit, which doesn't favour huge generating stations located hundreds or even thousands of miles from the intended user.
There are also environmental costs to large-scale generation projects, that will last for centuries after the last electron has been wrung from them (e.g. the huge hydroelectric dams in Quebec and Labrador, where mercury is leaching into the water that people and animals drink, with devastating consequences).
Oh, and there's also the issue of storing this wonderful grid energy, which is no small matter given the exploitation of places with lithium deposits usable for batteries. Like, the name "GigaFactory" should clue people in that things being done on that scale cannot be considered benign from an environmental standpoint!
People need to consume less everything, regardless of the fuel source used. Teslas are good compared to dino-burners, but dog shit compared to ebikes, which themselves are dog shit compared to regular bikes, which are dog shit compared to walking.
So, in short, just walk there.

I'm sincerely not trying to give you a hard time, but things like what we call ourselves have a lot to do with how we think. If we aren't sincere in self-criticism, we jist end up reproducing the patterns of oppression we've participated in either as victims, perpetrators or, most likely among us Eurosquatters, both.
In this same vein, for example, I've started deleting all the songs from my music player with the N-word, as well as those with misogynistic and homophobic references. With particular regard to the first one, it's not because the art is bad or should be obliterated outright, but because a "Black"/New Afrikan person hearing or saying that word is necessarily different than me hearing or saying it!
Our brains are like sponges: Whatever we're immersed it, we can't help but soak up and then drip all over the place! This is why, IMO, we have to be vigilant about not reproducing the harms of our ancestors.

@coolioso808 The short definition you gave above -- stateless, classless, moneyless -- is correct. Thus, the SU, China and others were clearly not communist...and they never claimed to be! Achieving communism requires first achieving socialism which, in the Marxist sense, simply means that workers own the means of production. That was achieved in both countries, and thus, not "state capitalist" (though China after Deng's market reforms in 1980 might be). Like, capitalism isn't merely when money exists. It's when capitalists own the means of production, and have the power to exploit their fellow man for accumulated labour power, be that in money or commodities.
As for your notion of rebranding communism, forget it. The people who like this system and want to perpetuate it call literally everything communism. Does that mean it should be abandoned? Fuck no. Rather, it means more people need to stop feeding their egos with petty "wins" while the earth burns, and actually propagandize to the lowest, deepest masses of the proletariat and so-called "lumpenproletariat". The only way you can reverse brainwashing is by brain-building!

IOW, if someone has a specific reason to warm up on purpose, I'm not saying it's bad. But to do it prophylactically? Nah. And besides, many (most?) cars become uneconomical to fix long before the engine block, crank, cam, rings and bearings wear out. Maybe you warm up grampa's old tractor because you're worried about hard thermal cycling of a 90 year old casting, but you should just drive your Fiat as soon as there's oil pressure...something else will surely kill that car! 🤣
