The new Ukrainian government was disorganized and was unable to mount a proper defence, as soon as structure was formed in the government Ukraine started taking its land back. As for the lie that was the referendum, no international monitoring was allowed and any pro Ukrainian people were intimidated as was seen on the videos on YouTube and other websites.
