@brustona2173 There wasn't enough data at the time to give precise estimates on how long someone would live. They did have a general understanding of how much would be fatal though. The data was collected partially to add to the scientific record (might as well learn something from a mistake) and partially so that doctors knew roughly what they were dealing with (who was likely a goner and who would probably survive etc.) so that they could better prioritize treatment.

5:40 A tidal locked planet / moon does rotate on it's axis, it just does so at a speed that has it completing one rotation in the same amount of time it takes it to complete one orbit. edit: I normally wouldn't use a wiki as a source but this particular animation makes visualizing how a rotating body can end up with the same part always facing the body it orbits a bit easier.
